Dear Volunteer Nursery Worker,
Loving and caring for toddlers presents a unique, and sometimes challenging opportunity. As a former classroom teacher and a "mother-in-training," it has become increasingly evident to me that our sin nature rears its ugly head at a very tender age. When parenting our own toddlers, we sometimes experience conflicting emotions as we face down a tiny scrunched-up face, obstinate posture, and a firm "No mommy!" I have found myself torn between laughter and tears. While a defiant toddler may cause us to giggle, there is nothing light or funny about sin, and we must teach our children early that disobedient, mean-spirited, and selfish behavior is displeasing to God.
As volunteer nursery workers, it is our responsibility and ministry to support the parents as they "train up" their children (Prov. 22:6). While serving in the nursery, please do not let inappropriate behavior slide, rather, use it as a teaching opportunity. For instruction on how to lovingly discipline the children entrusted in our care, please refer to the Volunteer Nursery Worker Handbook. Thank you in advance for your help, as we strive to always point children to Christ.
God Bless!
